Using the Best-Practice Library for Workflow Steps
The best-practice library helps you build workflows faster by providing pre-configured steps and step bundles that you can add to any existing workflow. This feature gives you access to expert-recommended workflow actions, saving time and ensuring you follow best practices.
Adding steps from the best-practice library
When editing a workflow, you can insert individual steps or entire step bundles from the library instead of configuring them from scratch. Navigate to 'Settings' > 'Automations' > 'Workflows' > select an existing workflow. In the 'Steps' tab, click 'Add step(s) from best-practice library'. A categorized step browser will open, showing:
- Individual workflow steps
- Reusable step bundles (groups of related steps)
- Categories organized by use case (e.g., Pre- and Onboarding, Offboarding, Employee milestones, Self-Service). Browse through the available steps by category. Preview any step before inserting it into your workflow by clicking on it. Select the step(s) you want to add and click to insert them into your workflow.
Please note: Some steps may appear greyed out if they are incompatible with your workflow's trigger. For example, absence-related steps will not be available in workflows that don't use absence-related triggers.
Customizing inserted steps
After inserting steps from the library, you can customize them to fit your organization's specific needs. All inserted steps are fully editable. Undefined mandatory fields (like task owner or timing) will be highlighted, prompting you to complete them. Edit the step settings as needed, including:
- Task owners or notification recipients
- Timing and scheduling
- Custom messages or descriptions
- Any other step-specific settings > Save your changes once you've customized the steps.

- General Onboarding
- Country-specific onboarding (e.g., Germany, US)
- Pre-boarding only
Offboarding
- Standard offboarding processes
Employee milestones
- Anniversary reminders
- End of probation checks
- Manager changes
- Visa expiration checks
Long-term Leave & Re-boarding
- Managing extended absences and returns
Self-Service
- Document requests
- Salary / Level / Team change requests
Please note: More templates will be added to the library over time, expanding the available use cases and step options.
