The Leapsome desktop app for Mac lets you transcribe meetings directly through your system audio, meaning any meeting you join through Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, or any other desktop conferencing tool can be automatically documented. Once a meeting ends, Leapsome generates an AI summary, action items, and talking points, which are saved directly to the relevant meeting in Leapsome.
Please note: The Leapsome desktop app is currently available for macOS only.
When to use the desktop app
Use the desktop app when:
- You run meetings through a desktop conferencing application (e.g., Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams)
- You want to transcribe a spontaneous or unscheduled meeting without setting one up in Leapsome first
- You want to receive system notifications that prompt you to start transcription at the right moment
For meetings joined via a browser, use the in-browser transcription feature instead.
How to use the desktop app
Downloading and installing the app
- Click on your Profile in Leapsome
- Click 'Personal settings'
- Navigate to the 'Meeting transcription' section
- Click 'Download desktop app'
- A setup guide appears before the download begins, review the instructions and confirm to proceed
- Once downloaded, open the installer and follow the on-screen steps to complete installation
Logging in
- Open the Leapsome desktop app
- Log in using your Leapsome email and password, or via SSO
- You will be redirected to Leapsome in your browser to authenticate, then returned to the app automatically
Starting a transcription for a scheduled meeting
The app automatically shows your current or next upcoming meeting at the top of the home screen.
- Open the Leapsome desktop app before or at the start of your meeting
- Your upcoming meeting is shown at the top: click 'Start transcription'
- Confirm participant consent by either:
- Playing the automated consent audio to inform all participants the meeting will be recorded, or
- Manually confirming all participants have given verbal consent
- Transcription begins once consent is confirmed
Starting a transcription via notifications
When a scheduled meeting starts, you will receive a system notification. Click 'Start transcribing' to begin immediately without opening the app, or click 'Dismiss' to ignore it.
If your microphone is accessed but no scheduled meeting is found, you will also receive a notification offering to start an ad hoc transcription.
Transcribing an ad hoc (unscheduled) meeting
If a meeting happens spontaneously or has no corresponding Leapsome meeting instance:
- Open the app and click 'New ad hoc meeting', or respond to the system notification
- Leapsome automatically creates a meeting instance with the current date and time, and adds you as a participant
- Start transcription as usual, the meeting title is generated from the transcript once the meeting ends
Joining a Zoom meeting and transcribing in one step
When a Zoom meeting is about to start and the app pop-up window appears:
- Click 'Join and transcribe' in the pop-up
- The app opens the Zoom meeting and starts the transcription flow simultaneously
- Confirm participant consent to begin
During the transcription
While transcription is active:
- A timer and status indicator show that transcription is running
- You can pause or stop transcription at any time using the control buttons
- You can replay the consent audio at any time during the meeting
After the transcription
When you click 'Stop transcription':
- The recording is uploaded and processed
- An AI summary, action items, and talking points are generated and saved to the related meeting in Leapsome
- A quick link to the meeting instance is shown in the app
- The transcript is accessible in the meeting itself, and you can read it by clicking on 'Read summary'
