Approvers can approve or reject absence requests directly from Slack and email notifications, without switching to Leapsome.
This feature is useful in any organization where absence requests go through an approval flow. It is particularly valuable for managers or admins who handle absence approvals regularly and want to action requests quickly without breaking their workflow in Slack or email.
How it works
When there is an active absence approval flow in place and an employee submits a request, the assigned approver automatically receives a notification in Slack and by email. (Please note that you can always adjust your notification preferences via Settings > Automations > Notifications > Notification settings.) The notification includes the absence type, the requester's name, the requested dates, and the employee's remaining absence balance after approval, giving approvers the context they need at a glance.

Three actions are available directly from the notification: 'Approve', 'Reject', and 'View in Leapsome'. Clicking 'Approve' triggers an immediate approval, using the same logic and permission checks as the Leapsome app. Clicking 'Reject' opens a prompt where the approver can leave a comment explaining the decision. This comment is reflected in Leapsome, and the employee receives a notification about the outcome either way.
For multi-step approval flows, each approver receives the notification only after the previous step has been completed.
When direct approval is not available
The 'Approve' and 'Reject' buttons are shown conditionally and will not appear in every notification. If the absence type requires a supporting certificate, the buttons are replaced with the message "Certificate required. Direct approval not available for this request." In that case, the approver should use 'View in Leapsome' to review and action the request in the app.
If an approver tries to action a request that has already been approved, rejected, or updated by someone else in the meantime, they will see the message "This request is outdated." This prevents duplicate or conflicting actions.
Please note: Approvers can only approve or reject requests from Slack and email, editing absence details is not possible from the notification. For any changes to the request itself, use the 'View in Leapsome' button to open the full request in the app.
