The learning module helps you store a tailored catalog of learning elements (content). Learning paths use these elements to create a structured and targeted learning experience for employees.
Admins can access and manage learning paths through the 'Manage content' > 'Path administration' section in the learning module.

Create a learning path:
Admins can create unlimited learning paths by navigating to the learning module, the 'Path administration' section, and clicking 'Actions' followed by 'Create a new learning path'.
Basics
This first page presents the basic information of a learning path:
- Name: Name of the learning path.
- Description: A description of the learning path helps employees understand the intention of the path and what they will learn by the end.
- Cover Image: the icon that will be shown when searching/viewing this learning path.
- Tag: If you have many learning paths, add a tag to help group them into categories.
- Competencies: You can now target the learning path toward specific competencies. More about this can be found in Linking learning paths to competencies.
Adding additional non-admin owners to a Learning Path
Learning paths, by default, can only be created by (super)-admins of the platform or admins of the Learning module specifically. However, managers and leads often want to create specific learning paths for their teams. To allow the flexibility for these employees to create a learning path without receiving the additional admin access - managers, team leads, HRBPs or any individual contributors can be added as a learning path owner by the admin.
To do this, the (super)-admin can navigate to 'Learning' > 'Manage content' > 'New learning path'. In the 'Basics' tab, under 'Owners', type the name of this employee and click on 'Save & Continue'. As an admin, you do not need to do any other steps - this draft path will immediately then become visible to this new owner in the 'Learning' module under 'Manage content' > 'Path administration'. The new owner can simply click on the path and continue adding all the steps and training materials to it.
Please note: even though this learning path owner will see the tab 'Paths administration', as a non-admin, they will only see this singular path that they own; They will not see any other paths in this page that they do not own.
Additionally, the learning path owners see all learning elements in the element administration tab and they can re-use these existing learning elements, but can’t modify them. Learning path owners can create new learning elements (and can modify these).
Add a cover image to a learning path
Adding a cover image to the learning path can make the path easier to visually identify within the path administration. To do so navigate to the 'Basics' tab of the learning path settings > cover image > upload image (or select an already available badge).
Once you have uploaded a cover image, you will see a preview within the basic settings that will show when the learning path is then activated or created. The file format must be in .png, .jpg, or .jpeg format, and the recommended file size is 360 x 360 pixels.
Steps
Selecting 'Save & Continue' will take you to the next page where you can set up the sequential steps of the learning path; these are the core of the learning path. Steps are built using content that can be added by searching through the list of existing learning elements or by uploading new content (please see the flow in the Learning Elements guide to curate your content library).
You can upload four types of steps:
- Articles: Articles are the most typical type of learning element. An article can be a link to an external or internal webpage, a PDF document, a presentation, an infographic, etc.
- Videos: Videos uploads are similar to articles but with different format optimizations. Videos natively support YouTube links (more supports can be added if needed) and any popular video file format (.mp4, .avi, etc.).
- Tasks: If those going through a learning path should complete a specific task, you would specify this with the task learning element. You define what the task is and any associated contacts the learner should reach out to if they need assistance.
- Quizzes: To ensure your employees have understood the learning material, our interactive quizzes help you test learners' newly acquired knowledge. These quizzes are made up of multiple-choice answers with one correct response or multiple responses (that you define). Furthermore, you can define a quiz passing threshold, and users can take the quiz an unlimited number of times until they reach the quiz passing percentage. The quiz scores are not visible to the users after completion of the path or element, they will be able to move to the next step after meeting the threshold.
- Open questions: Open questions allow for a more in-depth and personalized assessment of employees’ learning and understanding. They encourage critical thinking and problem-solving and can be an effective tool to support learning and improve the effectiveness of the acquired material. You can define if approval is required, who will review the answer, and if the employee can move on to the next step.
- Live trainings: Live trainings can now also be offered as a step in a learning path, or as a separate content element altogether. This allows for your organization to offer trainings that are accessible virtually, as well as in person, offering you the ability to track this attendance. Alternatively, you can upload an existing course such as a LinkedIn Learning course by selecting 'Upload Existing Course (SCORM, AICC, xAPI, CMI5)'.
Then, you will be able to upload your course as a ZIP file and give some additional information, that will be displayed along with the course in Leapsome. Details for setting up the Linkedin Learning Integration can be found in this article.
In the view of the path, you can then decide if each step is optional (meaning employees will be able to skip it) .The number of 'days to complete' for each step later can be used as a deadline with the option 'Relative deadline (based on learning elements)'. The deadline will be then the sum of 'days to complete' for each learning element.
'Estimated time to complete the path' will be visible to learners as a reference, for them to plan their learning time accordingly.
Preview learning path
Before activating your learning path, you can preview it to see exactly how it will appear to learners. This preview functionality allows you to review the complete learner experience, including the flow of steps, content presentation, and overall course structure without needing to activate the path. To preview your learning path, simply click the 'Preview' button in the Steps tab.
If you are happy with how your steps look like, click 'Save & Continue' at the bottom of the page to save any changes.
Targeting
Finally, you will define who should go through the path and when they should be added. You can define whether the path will be a one-time occurrence or recurring at a specific frequency.
A path can be targeted to 'All employees' or to any combination of teams and individuals. If you select "only selected employees, teams or locations," you can further dictate whether the filters used would be used with an 'and' or an 'or' logic. For example, if you choose to filter by teams and locations, then only users within the selected team, as well as the location would be included. If you selected the 'or' logic, then any users in the selected teams or locations will be included.
Next, you can decide when they will start. Paths can be automatically targeted to users based on their start date using the option 'Dynamically based on the hire date'. This gives you the flexibility to have new users receive the learning path a number of days before their hire date (at the pre-onboarding stage), immediately once joining, or with a delay. Just a note with pre-onboarding learning paths: If this option is selected, the user will be invited to Leapsome with their regular rights and will be able to access all relevant modules.
This automation works by adding active participants to a learning path on the day specified in the learning path settings. Additionally, if a user activates their account after their Leapsome start date, (let's say they started on Monday but didn't activate their Leapsome account until Friday), they will still be enrolled to the path as long as they satisfy the targeting condition within one month.
When you have an automation in place, or a date in the future where users will be added to the Learning Path, you will also see a tab within the Learning Path's dashboard that reads "Upcoming auto-enrollments". This will show all participants that will be added in the near future. Users will then be removed from this list the day of being added to the path, and there may be a time delay between them getting removed from the soon-to-be-added list, and added to the actual participation list.
Please note: If you choose to add an additional learning path owner in the 'Basics' tab, this additional owner will be able to target the entire organization (targeting will not be restricted to only their direct reports if they are a manager, or the teams they oversee as an HRBP or a Team Lead).
Lastly, you can decide if all users can join proactively (i.e., enroll themselves). If you click 'Yes, everyone,' all employees will see the option to enroll. If you click 'No,' no one will see the option to self-enroll. And if you click 'Yes, if the linked competencies apply to the user,' you allow users working on specific competencies to enroll (learn more about competency-based enrollment here).
Deadline
Admins can set fixed or flexible deadlines for learning paths, making it easier to track compliance and accountability. Deadline status is visible in the learning path table, included in exports, and can be used to filter both the learning path dashboard and analytics, giving admins better visibility and reducing the risk of non-compliance in training programs.
How to set deadlines for learning paths
- No deadline: Learners can complete the path at their own pace. No deadline will be shown on the learning path.
- Fixed deadline: Set a specific calendar date by which all learners must complete the path. This option is ideal for compliance trainings where everyone needs to complete training by the same date, regardless of when they enrolled. Please note: The date must be in the future, and this option is not applicable for recurring learning paths.
- Relative deadline (based on enrollment date): Set a number of days from when each user is enrolled. Each learner will have their own personalized deadline calculated from their enrollment date.
- Relative deadline (based on learning elements): Set a deadline based on each learning element's "days to complete" setting. The total deadline is calculated by adding up the days assigned to each learning element in the path.
Notifications
Admins can configure automated deadline notifications and customize learning step task reminders for learning paths. You can also customize each message's text, use variables to personalize, and provide translations to relevant languages.

- Weekly: Send task reminders once every 7 days when a learning step is overdue (this is the default behavior)
- None: Disable all automated task reminders for this learning path
Status
Finally, you can activate, deactivate (or delete) the path on the status screen. Similar to learning elements, changes to a learning path won't impact those currently enrolled. Only newly enrolled users will see the changes. New users for the path will see the latest version, and already-enrolled users will see the version active when they were enrolled.
Update path steps to already enrolled users with 'Refresh version'
If you made changes to a learning path, and you want users who are already enrolled to see the newly updated content, you can refresh the learning path for already enrolled users who have not yet completed the learning path or the updated steps.
To do so, navigate to the learning path > 3 dots menu > click 'Refresh version'.
A warning modal will appear letting you know how refreshing the version will affect users.

Translations
When setting up a learning path, you can add translations for the following to ensure that the Learning path can be viewed in the language relevant for the users in your company.

Just like in other parts of the platform, to add a translation, click on the translation icon within the line you would like translated > choose the relevant language > add the translation for that language.
In the pop up window you can select your preferred language(s) and add your translation.
Please note, users will see the translation only if they are using the platform in that specific language. Meaning, if you add a Spanish translation, users won't see it unless they change their platform language to 'Spanish' in the 'Personal settings'.
