How do I set up one-click AI review drafts and performance nudges in Leapsome?
Performance nudges are configured in 'Settings' > 'Reviews' > 'Performance feedback nudges'. One-click review drafts are automatically available to reviewers once the Review Assistant is enabled and enough context has been captured.
These two features work together to close the most common gap in review quality: not enough documented evidence throughout the year. Performance nudges prompt managers and employees to capture brief private observations on a regular schedule. Those notes feed directly into the Review Assistant, which can then generate a full first review draft in a single click when it detects sufficient context.
As an admin, your main responsibility is configuring the nudge schedule. The one-click draft experience is automatic once context is available.

What are one-click AI review drafts?
When the Review Assistant detects that sufficient context is available for a reviewee, it offers reviewers the option to generate a complete draft for all questionnaire questions in a single click, without going through the full guided conversation.
The threshold for "sufficient context" is conservative by design: the assistant requires at least five distinct data points spanning at least three months. This prevents low-quality drafts that would erode reviewer trust.
When the threshold is met, the reviewer sees the option to generate a full draft immediately. Each drafted answer:
- Is clearly labelled as AI-generated
- Includes a source indicator showing which data contributed (for example, "Based on: 3 private notes, 2 meeting transcripts, peer feedback")
- Can be edited inline before submission
The progress indicator in the Review Assistant also reflects actual context readiness. When the assistant starts a review session with strong relevant evidence for a question, progress begins above zero. This gives reviewers an accurate picture of how ready the assistant is to help, rather than always starting at 0%.
What are performance nudges?
Performance nudges are scheduled reminders that prompt managers and employees to capture brief private observations about performance on a regular cadence throughout the year. Notes are saved privately and automatically fed into the Review Assistant at review time.
This solves one of the most common causes of poor review quality: recency bias. When managers write reviews from memory, they over-weight the last few weeks of performance. Continuous note capture builds a longitudinal record that the assistant can draw on for more evidence-based, fair review drafts.
There are two independently configurable nudge types:
- Manager nudges: prompt managers to capture brief observations on each of their direct reports
- Self nudges: prompt employees to capture notes on their own performance, for use in self-reviews
How to configure performance nudges
To set up performance nudges:
- Go to 'Settings' > 'Reviews'
- Locate the 'Performance feedback nudges' section
- Toggle on 'Manager performance feedback nudges', 'Self performance feedback nudges', or both
- Configure the options for each enabled type: Frequency, Day of week, and Scope.
When 'Selected employees' is chosen, a multi-filter appears for inclusion and exclusion by department, location, or role. This uses the same filter pattern as review cycles and surveys.
Please note: Manager and self nudge settings are independent. You can enable one without the other, and configure different frequencies for each.
How nudge notes feed into the Review Assistant
Notes captured through nudges are saved as private entries visible only to the author. At review time, the Review Assistant is automatically granted read access to the author's private notes for the specific reviewee, strictly within the context of that active review cycle.
Notes are not visible to anyone else and cannot be accessed by the assistant outside of an active review writing session. No changes are made to existing private note privacy settings.
The more notes are captured throughout the review period, the richer the context available to the Review Assistant, and the more likely the one-click draft threshold is met.
How nudge notifications work
In-app and email notifications
Nudge tasks appear in:
- The Home dashboard task checklist, labelled "Take performance notes on your direct reports"
- In-app bell notifications
- Email notifications
If a previous nudge task was not completed when a new one is due, the system sends a reminder for the existing task rather than creating a new one. This prevents dashboard clutter. If your organization has Leapsome's Slack integration enabled, nudge notifications are also delivered via Slack.
Managers receive one combined notification for all their direct reports, not one per person.
When the manager opens the nudge task, a modal cycles through each direct report. For each person, the manager sees a pop-up window with the question: 'What went well and what could be improved?'
FAQ
1. Can I enable nudges for only part of my organization?
Yes. When configuring nudges, set the scope to 'Selected employees' and use the multi-filter to define inclusion or exclusion by department, location, or role.
2. What happens if a manager has no direct reports?
Managers without direct reports do not receive manager nudge notifications. The nudge system only creates tasks for managers with at least one active direct report.
3. Are nudge notes visible to anyone other than the author?
No. Notes are private to the author in all contexts except one: the Review Assistant reads them during an active review session where the author is writing a review for that specific person. They are never visible to the reviewee or to other managers.
4. Does the one-click draft replace the guided conversation in the Review Assistant?
No. The one-click draft is an option offered when sufficient context is available. Reviewers can always choose to go through the guided conversation instead. Both paths are available regardless of how much context exists.
6. Can nudge frequency be set differently for managers and employees?
Yes. Manager nudges and self nudges have separate frequency, day, and scope settings. You can configure them independently in 'Settings' > 'Reviews' > 'Performance feedback nudges'.
